Elio spends every summer at his parents’ country house in northern Italy, sunbathing, reading and hanging out with friends. In the summer of his 17th year, however, the family receives a visit from Oliver, a handsome post-doctoral student who is to be his father’s assistant. At first their relationship is cold and distant but, inevitably, first love soon begins to blossom under the hot sun of the Italian Riviera.
