Parasite, Bong Joon-Ho, South Korea, 2019
Original Korean version with Spanish subtitles
Ki-taek is the father of a struggling family living in a semi-basement apartment in Seoul. However, their situation begins to change one day when his son gets a job teaching English at the home of the Parks, a wealthy family. The young man ingeniously gains the trust of the lady of the house, and gradually brings in the rest of his family to take up different jobs as servants.
One of the season’s biggest hits, Parasite swept up at the Oscars, achieving a historic feat: Academy awards for Best Film, Best Foreign Film and Best Director. A black comedy full of suspense and a brilliant reflection on class struggle.
